Narani Hensons unconditional love of the ocean is her inspiration for weirdly wonderful artwork using a variety of mediums. Through Bleach* Narani will share with the surf community festival audience not only her creations but also passion for the ocean, its waves and of course, surfing.

A side from her stunning paintings, Narani often uses reclaimed materials and pieces of flotsam and jetsam to make statement art pieces that somehow manage to simultaneously conjure up the beauty of the ocean while highlighting its vulneenerability.

Naranis work featured in the first Bleach* Festival, and we look forward to welcoming her back in 2013.

We asked Narani a few questions about herself and heres what she shared with us!

Q: TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND

A: Fifteen years ago I came from New Zealand. Now I call Byron Bay home. I believe that we are products of our environment and that our childhood shapes who we are.

Q: YOURE INVOLVED IN BLEACH* 2013, HOW WOULD YOU EXPLAIN THE INSTALLATION YOUR WORKING ON WITHOUT GIVING TOO MUCH AWAY?

A: My subject has been water, waves and seascapes for as long as I can remember. I recently finished studying and I think it has given me confidence to do something weird like make art with marine plastic.

Q: WHAT DOES SURFING AND COSTAL CULTURE MEAN TO YOU, AND HOW CONNECTED DO YOU FEEL TO COAST?

A: Surfing and beach culture are very much a part of my life and I find extreme joy in sharing my ocean inspired words and artworks. I am privileged to write on surf culture daily at my online womens surf magazine www.surfsister.com.au.

Q: WHAT ASPECT OF BLEACH* ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO?

A: I love being involved with anything that celebrates surf culture and meeting other like-minded people who love surfing and the ocean.

Q: WHERE CAN PEOPLE SEE YOUR WORK?

My website (www.naranihenson.com.au) as well as Dbar Gallery Coolangatta (www.cafedbar.com.au)
